I am probably taking great liberties and making broad assumptions by making the connections I am about to make, but here it goes for the sake of conversation.
In the split second I saw these two women walking toward me - one at work and the other taking care of a young child - I saw the moving portrait as a metaphor for the choices women often feel they have to make when balancing careers and family.
From an artistic perspective I’m allowed to make certain assumptions. From a street journalism perspective - to make the metaphor work - I would need to know if the working woman has children and whether the woman pushing the stroller is in fact the child’s mother, or another woman whose job is taking care of other people’s children.
Since I didn’t ask, for the purposes of this post, I am an artist not a journalist.
