Pop Rebellion

Last week we brought you inside the Connecticut budget process with a behind the scenes look at Governor Ned Lamont.

One of Lamont’s proposals to raise new money for the state would put a 1.5% tax a sugary drinks like sodas. That is not sitting well with lots of people who think government should not be in the business of telling us what to eat and drink.

One opponent is a small soda bottling company in New Britain, Connecticut known as Avery’s Soda. They have bottled a special batch of sodas with labels aimed squarely at the governor reading, “Don’t Tax Me Ned!!!”

Avery’s has been in business in Connecticut for 115 years.
