Silos in the Sun

In this part of the country the wide open spaces of Oklahoma become the wider open spaces of the Texas panhandle.

Silos of various sizes and purposes dot the landscape like silver top hats dropped at random on a wheat colored dance floor.

Often there are no signs of life nearby. No homes, no offices, no pickup trucks. There is nothing to indicate who owns these utilitarian structures, what’s kept inside, or why it made sense to place them here. They are as much a part of the landscape as an old tree standing alone in the middle of the miles and miles of acreage, stretching in every direction, from the service road to the horizon.
